How do I pay for BI?

You can pay PayPal or by check made payable to ISBGFH and mailed to our treasurer. Mail to: Barbara Scanlon, 5050 Main Street, Apt. 511, Kansas City, MO 64112. Please note what classes in order you are registering for. Checks need to be postmarked by September 30, 2022. To pay via Debit or Credit Card you do not need a PayPal account to use PayPal to register for BI.

Are there any additional fees or charges?

No, not if you are attending virtually. Your 20 hours of class time, live Q&A, and handout are all included in the fee.

If you are attending in person, the fee does not include travel to and from Salt Lake City, hotel stay, food or local transportation costs. 

If I change my mind or something comes up, can I get a refund?

Cancellation policy - A refund will be issued upon written request / email request to the Institute Director before September 30, 2022 at 11:59pm MDT. There will be a $50 service charged for cancelling. Beginning October 1, 2022, no refunds will be issued. Registrations are not transferable to another person or for future events.

I am a beginner to genealogy, can I attend?

Our instructors are accustomed to teaching to genealogists of all skill and experience levels, but these courses are geared toward the intermediate. We can recommend some basic free courses thru that can help prepare you for the British Institute.

I see you are offering 4 classes, how many can I register for?

You can register for all 4 classes if you like. Members receive a discount if they register for all 4 classes at one time.

Are there any handouts or prerequisites? or what can I expect to receive?

A robust handout will be sent as a PDF for you to download and print prior to the start of BI. Any other prerequisites are based on instructor preferences and details will be sent in advance of BI courses beginning.

Will we have access to class lists and contact information of the instructors?

Those who opt in will be included on a class list that will be available to others in the class. Your instructor will provide information on how to contact them. A virtual Meet & Greet for each class with the instructor is also planned.

What are the dates for British Institute 2022?

Week 1: Meet 'n Greet - Sunday, 9 October 2022 with class running from 10 - 14 October 2022.
Week 2: Meet 'n Greet - Sunday, 16 October 2022 with class running from 17 - 21 October 2022.

Location and Lodging

When in person, British Institute is held annually at The Salt Lake Plaza Hotel at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah, just steps away from the Family History Library. There is a block of rooms reserved for registered attendees, on a first come first serve basis. The classrooms and Sunday evening reception are located in the hotel. The hotel also has an indoor parking garage.
